What is happening on 1 July 2026?

From 1 July 2026, new mandatory industry standard under Australian law, will change the way some text messages appear on your mobile.
These new standards are designed to make it harder for scammers to pretend to be trusted organisations by SMS.

Telecommunication providers will need to check whether certain SMS messages are using an approved name, called a ‘Sender ID’ that is listed on a national register. If the name is not on that register, the message will be treated as unverified.
